Synopsis
Concrete pavements, owing to their material properties, maintain structural strength over the long term, resist rutting (depressions in wheel paths), and contribute to the extended service life of pavement. However, reduction in skid resistance due to wear over prolonged use, a phenomenon that is particularly pronounced in concrete pavements within tunnels, is a concern. This paper presents an overview of this issue and the countermeasures implemented, drawing on domestic and international case studies. Additionally, it reports on recent research findings, including methods for measuring and evaluating skid resistance and surface texture. The texture of road surfaces cannot be fully explained by traditional evaluation based on macrotexture alone, and the inclusion of microtexture evaluation is essential for a better understanding.
