- Synopsis
- In JIS A 1155 “Method of measurement of rebound number on surface of concrete,” the rebound hammer is standardized as the instrument for measuring the rebound number. However, in recent years, a new type of rebound hammer that measures the rebound velocity ratio, which is the ratio of the rebound velocity to the striking velocity, rather than measuring the rebound number, has been developed and is being sold. Although this hammer does not conform with the JIS A 1155 standard, it is applicable under the ASTM, EN, and BS standards. Consequently, in October 2023, the Japanese Society for NonDestructive Inspection established standard NDIS 3438 “Method of measurement of rebound velocity ratio on surface of concrete,” allowing for the use of this new type of rebound hammer. This paper presents an overview of the NDIS 3438 standard.
