Report and Recommendations of Special Committee on the Great East Japan Earthquake

Synopsis
Following the extensive damage caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake over a vast area, a disaster on a scale never experienced since the twentieth century, the Japan Concrete Institute established the Special Technical Committee on the Great East Japan Earthquake. This committee has conducted surveys from the viewpoint of concrete engineering on the damage caused to concrete materials related facilities, particularly for cement and aggregate, ready-mixed concrete plant, and construction sites, as well as the damage to roads and railroads, buildings, the concrete structures of ports, and the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, compiled and analyzed the results of these surveys, and issued a report outlining the various lessons learned from these results and the various challenges and measures for reconstruction and recovery. The committee further outlined recommendations for future initiatives based on the findings.
