Concept of Concrete Bridge Maintenance and its Application

- Nowadays, deterioration of existing concrete bridges has become a serious problem all over the world. It is neccesary to maintain existing old bridges and to increase their service life. In this paper, the concept of Bridge Management System (BMS) is introduced. The development of the BMS and its application to actual bridges are also described. In the BMS, soundness of bridges can be evaluated numerically for each member. Further, future deterioration or a bridge can be predicted numerically using the Markov model so that accurate maintenance and management actions can be conducted.
