Synopsis
It is essential to ensure seismic safety of bridges for a large-Scale earthquake based on the design code after Kobe earthquake. Ensuring the seismic safety may often result in excessive reinforcement in prestressed concrete continuous rlgid frame bridge which lacks in construction efficiency. Research and developments for this structure were conducted by authors in order to improve seismic safety and construction efficiency and reduce the cost. Cyclic loading tests were carried out to investigate a performance of a bridge uslng small-scaled specimens. As a result, the effectiveness of this structure was verified. This article reports a summary of this structure, a design philosophy, contents of the experiment and knowledge obtained from the experiment.
