Synopsis
Fracture mechanics and micromechanics have been introduced to investigate fiber reinforced cementitious composite (FRCC) and contributed to develop high performance FRCCs. This introduction has enhanced rapid development of material design technology for FRCCs, which is based on micromechanical parameters of constitutive materials. This article overviews the material design technology, which was originally established for achieving extremely ductile FRCC with tensile strain capacity over several percent, named as engineered cementitious composite (ECC). Furthermore, research activities to achieve high performance structural element with ECC are described.
