- Synopsis
- Thinking seriously about the damage to highway bridges by the Hyogo-Ken-Nanbu earthquake of January 17, 1995, Metropolitan Expressway Public Corporation is launched on the retrofitting project to achieve the strengthening of the earthquake disaster prevention measures so that Metropolitan Expressway structures will not fall off or collapse even against enormus seismic motions of this class. The total number of bridge piers of Metropolitan Expressway, including both reinforced concrete and steel ones, is about 7,200. For all of them, the Corporation plans to examine earthquake proofness and almost complete necessary measures within the next three years.
