Synopsis
As society rapidly ages and birthrates decline, the aging of skilled workers and the shortage of engineers are becoming increasingly serious issues, making productivity improvement a top priority. Against this backdrop, the Japan Prestressed Concrete Institute, a public interest incorporated association, established the “Technical Standards of Precast PC Bridges” as a revision of the “Specification for Design and Construction of External Cable Structures and Precast Segmental Bridges” formulated in 2005. This revision aims to further promote the widespread use of precast PC bridges. It targets pretensioned and post-tensioned PC girders, as well as bridges using precast components for their main members. It features also the addition of a section on maintenance to take into account the life cycle of structures. These standards cover also the external prestressing cable structure. This paper presents an overview of these standards.
